What does stretching and cupping help with?

Stretching can be very helpful for many aches and pains caused by muscle disfunction and retraction from injury and longterm misuse.  Folks who live a more sedentary lifestyle and/or overuse muscles (construction workers, runners, dancers etc...) can hugely benefit from regular passive stretch sessions. Cupping can be helpful for these issues as well as bringing blood flow specifically to an area which needs healing. There is a suction created with the cups which lifts sometimes swollen tissue away from the inflamed nerves beneath giving them a break and a moment to reset.  With these therapies combined we can also really see a big change  in nervous system function and an overall calming of the mind and body.

What should I expect from my first session?

Your first session will be wonderful! I will ask you to complete a form and we will talk over a bit of your health history and if there are things you'd like to focus on during our session. I will explain that it is important for us to communicate well during this first appointment. I will talk through how I'd like to proceed and we will be in constant communication. I will also ask you to do your best to completely relax which sends the message from your nervous system to your muscles that it safe for you to allow these gentle stretches to happen with ease. I may remind you to breathe several times. Many people say that afterwards, they feel as if they've had a massage although, there is no massage in the traditional sense occurring. This is the power of this modality. If you are having a cupping session, be prepared to have some muscles you didn't even know were tight, loosen up and release. You'll also likely leave with some light skin marking from the suction that typically goes away in a few days.

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

Please prepare for you treatment by arriving fed but not overfull, hydrated and wearing comfortable loose clothing. Bring an open mind and a willingness to learn something new.
